Oils and water.

Oil and water can make a wonderful combination for vibrant abstract photos and eye-catching visuals. The oil is highly reflective, bouncing back any light sources that may be nearby. So by covering the light source with a colourful material - in this case a Union Jack flag - we get this wonderful effect where every single drop of oil picks up and reflects the colours and shapes…

This is a great project that anyone can try out at home. Simply fill a tray with water, add a few drops of oil and give it a swirl. The oil reflects nearby light sources, so you could place a template over a flash like this, or use an image on a screen.
