A feel for foreground interest.

Many Landscape photographers know that one more of the most effective ways to compose a scene is to include foreground interest. But what exactly is it, and how can we make the most of it? Over the course of a morning, I explored the beach and rocks at Bamburgh Northumberland, in search of a variety of foregrounds to frame up with the iconic castle….

A well-trodden beach.

This first one is a shot I’ve seen done similarly before. So it’s not all that original, but one of the benefits of seeking out interesting foreground interest is that it can often lead you to a fresh angle on a well-photographed location. So for my second angle of the morning, I headed to the rocks further along the beach and found a different composition…
